eDrive Inverter System Engineering

System-level work on a power-electronics inverter for an electric drive.

System responsibility for a mid-power inverter in an eDrive application — requirements, interfaces and architecture for power electronics integration.

Abstract illustration of an inverter switching waveform

Public summary of confidential industrial work at Nidec. Technical specifics are intentionally left out.

Project overview

An inverter turns HV DC into the phase currents that drive the motor. The system work covers requirements, interfaces to the vehicle and the motor, and the architecture that ties control, protection and diagnostics together.

Background

This builds on earlier work with high-voltage battery management at Lear and the control topics I work with — field-oriented control, torque control, resolver feedback and PWM-based control.

Outcomes

  • Structured requirements and interface baseline for the inverter system.
